Spring-Y

14 May

SATURDAY NIGHT:

This past year, I’ve had my eye on the Bay Area’s dance scene.  They are a vibrant and progressive bunch.  Every time I see a great performance, I leave feeling like anything is possible.

This saturday night, I’ll be opening for Embodiment Project, the company of Nicole Klaymoon, one of my favorite choreographers.

RoCo Dance Center, 56 Bolinas Ave, Fairfax 94930

I’ll be playing first, at 8pm.  Immediately after me, Embodiment will debut Bloodline, their latest work.  The asking price is $20, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Have you seen R.Crumb’s Book of Genesis comic book?  It’s actually pretty magical, not as mocking as one might expect from R.

Right, Sumeria and what not.  Moving on, here is a new track!

It’s called “Windy”, and it’s 95% done, another from the  Home Phone EP, coming in summer.  This music was produced and recorded by Miles Kennedy, who I’ve been playing with since I was 12.  I played the instruments, and Miles coached me into a more focused, minimal kind of sound.  Hope you diggit, friends.

Alakazam! The music of Sky Saxon

4 Apr

Here, Darlings.  A sneak peek at “Alakazam”, a cover song I am contributing to a Sky Saxon tribute record.

This was recorded in the last couple weeks at Owl Sight, Oakland.  The tribute will be released by GRA in June, with great artists in abundance. It’ll be worth owning, for certain. I’ll keep ya posted.

A little night music at Cafe Gratitude

25 Mar

There’s a new tradition getting started out here in San Rafael.  On the final Saturday of each month, Cafe Gratitude stays open until 2am, and a whole lot of talented people come out to perform and raise the roof.

The San Rafael Cafe Gratitude is very near and dear to me.  It’s a rare spot for the counter culture to gather in Marin.  It’s also one of the few places where you can dine out, knowing just WHAT you are eating, and that the person who made it loves their earthly job.

SO, needless to say, I’m very happy to be playing the next Gratitude Night Life party!
Here’s the deets:

Saturday March 27th
10pm-2am
Free party, drink specials on some unique and healthy liquids, alchoholic and otherwise
Featured wiil be:
10pm-Todd Haack

(a wizard of song, i say)
10:30- Peck the Town Crier (a solo set, con duende)
11pm-MC Yogi                     (a conscious MC out of West Marin)
11:30-Avasa and Matt          (the soulful-est musical couple i’ve seen in a long time)

The later hours turn into a sweaty DJ party. Come out, people! This is the kind of gig I REALLY love to play…such a great hang…

Cafe Gratitude San Rafael is at 2200 4th Street, San Rafael 94901

Hope to see you there.
Love,
Chris

Mahalo People

8 Feb

Sing, muse! of a virus.  Sometimes the bug is the cure.  That’s what we’re hoping with this Underwear video.  Sorry for the never-ending build-up, people.  Last month, we had a little fete at Littlefield in Brooklyn.

Much of our volunteer cast was on hand, shaking butt to my brother’s selections.  (Natural selections, always.  He is a biologist.)  Thank you for being there, in such high spirits too!  The party was hosted, handsomely, by director Naftali Beane Rutter.  Ever the ringmaster, he planned a dead wizard spectacle, featuring me.  We showed the video twice, I rapped and danced a little for ’em, and drank some dark spiced chocolate.  As all great parties do, the night went completely undocumented.

This brings me to the present:  Time for a wesT COAST UndERweaR pAhtay!

My favorite venue in SF is going to host us.  But here’s the thing: the venue is a home!  So I cannot publish where it’s at.  (some of you might know which home now)

So in lieu of WHERE, here’s WHAT/WHEN:

Friday February 19th, from 8-11pm

I’ll be playing a solo set, spinning sock-hop records, and showing the new Underwear music video, at 9 o’clock and 10:30.

For a mere Five Ducats, you will board our joyful vessel, partake of free wine and cheese, and catch the bug too!

SO!, if this all sounds good, write me at peck.towncrier@gmail.com, and RSVP.  Because this is a home, seats are limited, so HOLLA!

Lastly, I promise this thing will be on the web soon.  Some benevolent chickens are yet to hatch re: this.

Much love, everyone.

“Underwear” Sneak Peek

17 Jan

It’s time, people:

Let us gather and marvel, for the “Underwear” music video is done!  If you live in New York City, or in the SF Bay Area, take a visit to the delivery room, and catch an advance viewing of this baby!

Here are the dates and info:

NYC Thursday, January 28th

Director Naftali Beane Rutter has organized a mother of a party, at Littlefield, a beautiful theater in Brooklyn.  This place seats hella people, and the screen is enormous, further enhancing our video’s epic qualities.

My brother, Austin Peck, will be DJ-ing till late.  Very late . There will be a performance, as well, by the Wizard of Underwear.

Littlefield: 622 Degraw, (between 3rd & 4th ave) Brooklyn, NY 11217

SF Bay- Friday, February 19th, at 490 Linden St

The party out west will be something more intimate.  490 Linden is my favorite venue to play in Sf. It’s maintained by my sweet friends Sal and Cara Vida, and fits a limited number of peeps.

Party goes from 8 ’till Midnight.  I’ll be performing a solo set, spinning some sock-hop classics, and showing the video at 9pm and 10:30 pm.

We’ll have some libation available as part of your $5 ticket.  Because of the intimate, special nature of this party, you gotta RSVP with me.  Drop me a line with your name at: underwearpremiere@gmail.com  (and I’ll put you on the list!)

The wait is nearly over.  Come celebrate!

Much Love—>Peck

Ye Olde Hotel Utah

15 Jan

What are you doing tonight?

I’ll be playing a 9 0’clock solo set at The Hotel Utah,  which has long been a place of regeneration and warm vibes for many wonderful people I know.  In turn, I’ll be making my set into a warm and regenerative experience.  (There will be a lamp, a rug and tea, and some thrilling dance moves.)

I hope you all can make it.  Some very special bands will be in the house tonight:

9pm sharp:  Peck’ll be playing a solo set to warm ya up.

10pm- Con Brio.  If you’ve not heard this band yet, please check them!  www.myspace.com/thebandconbrio   They are the real deal.  I reserve this sort of recommendation for special occassions!

11pm- Guella.  An beautiful quartet of lads.  Their music sounds like funk in heaven.
The Cover?  Eight bones.  Come on out tonight, Friday night.
The Hotel Utah, 500 4th St (@ corner of Bryant) , San Francisco Ca 94107

wut du YU du?

15 Dec

I read Wu.  Emerson tu.

And Moby Dick, who was white not blu.

Sorry it’s been a while. It takes time to think of stuff like this.  But yeah, I’ve been home a lot.  Lifting weights in the driveway (trying to rebuild some pounds after a long Candida cleanse)

Chopping garlic (I’ll let you try my Wu tang Style)

Bushwacking to the Snowy Peaks of Novato (last monday, dec 7th)

Resting my voice.  Actually, it hurt to talk for all of November.  All my conversations happened with a pen & pad. Played a Halloween show with Javier Montiel up at Bus Stop Coffee in Petaluma, using my looper in lieu of voice.

Also at home, producer Miles Kennedy and I tracked my new ep, HOMEPHONE.  We’re in mix phase, and consulting with Wile E. Coyote on release strategy. Here’s something (rough) for the ears:

“You’ve Got to Work It”

ps- “underwear” vid is done. comin’ out soon. the world will never be the same.
